Mysuru: To clear the additional rush of passengers during the Dasara, Deepavali and Chhath festival season, South Western Railway (SWR) will operate weekly special trains between Mysuru and Rameshwaram, with nine trips in each direction.
According to an SWR press release, the special services will operate from October 5 to December 1, providing additional connectivity between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu during the festive period.
Mysuru–Rameshwaram special train schedule
Train No. 06263 Mysuru–Rameshwaram Weekly Express Special will depart from Mysuru at 6.35 pm every Monday from October 5 to November 30.
The train will reach Rameshwaram at 11 am the following day, Tuesday.
In the return direction, Train No. 06264 Rameshwaram–Mysuru Weekly Express Special will depart from Rameshwaram at 3.30 pm every Tuesday from October 6 to December 1.
It will arrive at Mysuru at 7.45 am on Wednesday, according to SWR.
The services have been introduced to accommodate the expected increase in passenger demand during the festive season, particularly around Mysuru Dasara, Deepavali and Chhath.
Stops at major stations
The special train will halt at several important stations in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu in both directions.
The stations include:
- Mandya
- Ramanagaram
- Kengeri
- KSR Bengaluru
- Bengaluru Cantonment
- Hosur
- Dharmapuri
- Salem
- Namakkal
- Karur
- Dindigul
- Madurai
- Manamadurai
- Paramakkudi
- Ramanathapuram
The route will provide passengers from Mysuru, Bengaluru and other stations along the corridor with an additional option to travel towards the Ramanathapuram district and Rameshwaram during the festival period.
Train to have 21 coaches
The Mysuru–Rameshwaram special will comprise 21 coaches.
The composition includes:
- 2 AC 2-Tier coaches
- 5 AC 3-Tier coaches
- 8 Sleeper Class coaches
- 4 General Second Class coaches
- 1 Brake, Luggage and Generator Car
- 1 Second Class luggage-cum-brake van with Divyangjan facilities
The additional services are part of the railway’s efforts to manage the seasonal surge in passenger demand during major festivals.
With Mysuru Dasara attracting visitors from across Karnataka and neighbouring states, followed by Deepavali and Chhath, the special weekly services are expected to provide additional travel capacity on the Mysuru–Rameshwaram route.
