Residents of Mysuru have voiced their concerns to the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) and local elected representatives about the deteriorating condition of their city. The primary issue highlighted is the pervasive potholes that plague the city’s roads, causing significant inconvenience and safety hazards.

Civic authorities have consistently failed to provide timely and effective solutions to this recurring problem. Each year, during the monsoon season, Mysuru’s roads transform into pools of filthy water, exacerbating the already dire situation. This negligence and substandard repair work have frustrated residents who cannot understand the reasons behind the authorities’ indifferent attitude.

The suggestion has been made for civic authorities to conduct a padayatra (inspection walk) around major roads such as those in front of the Suburban Bus Stand, Hardinge Circle, and Nazarbad Main Road. These areas are particularly afflicted by potholes and ditches, which worsen during the rainy season. Water accumulation in these ditches not only damages the roads further but also becomes a breeding ground for mosquitoes, leading to outbreaks of dengue and other diseases.

Despite being known as India’s cleanest city in the past, Mysuru’s ranking has been declining due to the authorities’ lackadaisical approach. Residents urge the authorities to take immediate and concrete steps to address these issues to restore the city’s former glory and maintain its reputation as a clean and well-maintained urban area.
