Mysuru is gearing up for a major upgrade in its sports infrastructure as the Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports (DYES) has officially submitted a proposal to the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) to develop a multi-sport complex at Hanchya-Sathagalli.
Spread over 25.2 acres of MUDA-owned land, the proposed centre will host a variety of disciplines, including athletics, cycling, Kho Kho, volleyball, wrestling, and basketball. The project, announced in the 2025–26 state budget by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, aims to transform Mysuru into a national-level sports destination and encourage youth to explore careers in athletics.
Key components of the project include a synthetic track for athletics, an international-standard velodrome, and exclusive courts and academies for key Indian sports. The long-pending velodrome, first proposed in 2023–24, will finally be realised on 10–15 acres, complete with pump and dirt tracks to foster cycling talent.
The original idea of building a cricket stadium was dropped due to the presence of a 2.28-acre waterbody. Rather than scrapping the site, planners have opted to revive and incorporate the waterbody into the layout, enhancing both the environment and utility.
Located near the VTU Regional Centre and Outer Ring Road, the complex will also include sports hostels and training fields. Once complete, it is expected to ease the load on Chamundi Vihar Stadium and position Mysuru as a regional training and events hub.
