Mysuru: The Karnataka government has reaffirmed its commitment to developing Mysuru as the State’s second major IT and Artificial Intelligence (AI) hub after Bengaluru, with several key announcements made at the inaugural edition of the Mysuru BIG TECH Show-2026, themed ‘Beyond Bengaluru’, held at the Infosys campus in Hootagalli on Friday.
The event was organised by the Karnataka Digital Economy Mission (KDEM) in association with the Department of Electronics, Information Technology, Biotechnology and Science & Technology.
Mysuru’s IT and AI vision gains momentum
With Mysuru recently being declared an ‘IT City’ and ‘AI City’, the State government said plans are now being actively implemented to position the city as a leading technology destination.
As part of this vision, the government has identified 50 acres of land to create world-class infrastructure aimed at attracting technology companies and investments.
Electronics cluster and startup ecosystem to expand
During a fireside chat, Dr. S. Selvakumar, Principal Secretary, Department of Commerce and Industries, said a 252-acre Electronics Manufacturing Cluster (EMC) has been developed at Kochanahalli near Kadakola under a plug-and-play model to attract electronics manufacturers.
N. Manjula, Secretary, Department of Electronics, Information Technology and Biotechnology, announced that Mysuru’s Examination and Certification Centre will be upgraded at an estimated cost of ₹100 crore, benefiting the electronics industry.
She also revealed that ₹25 crore has been allocated under the Cluster Seed Fund to support startups in the Mysuru cluster from the State’s total ₹75-crore fund. Eligible startups approved by the Expert Committee will receive financial assistance.
IT exports expected to cross $10 billion
KDEM Mysuru Cluster CEO Sanjeev Kumar Gupta said Mysuru has emerged as Karnataka’s second-largest IT export hub, currently generating ₹5,700 crore in IT exports with a digital economy valued at USD 1.3 billion.
He said the digital economy is projected to grow to USD 5.4 billion with the addition of biotechnology products, while the long-term target is to achieve USD 10 billion in exports.
Highlighting recent investments, Gupta said five companies have begun operations in Mysuru over the past three months with investments worth ₹495 crore, creating 93,000 sq. ft. of modern infrastructure and generating around 1,100 jobs.
Several industry leaders, senior government officials and representatives from Infosys, ASSOCHAM, NASSCOM, STPI, JSS AHER and other organisations attended the event.
