A significant boost to renal healthcare is on the horizon for Mysuru, as the Institute of Nephro Urology (INU) is set to receive a dedicated nephrology hospital. The Karnataka government has approved ₹117.7 crore for constructing a permanent kidney care centre on a five-acre site within the PKTB Hospital campus on KRS Road, near the Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences.

The new facility aims to provide advanced dialysis services, kidney transplants, and treatment for other renal disorders to over 69,000 patients, easing the load on Victoria Hospital’s nephrology unit in Bengaluru. The KR Hospital-based INU unit, established in September 2018, was the second full-fledged government nephrology unit in Karnataka and has already facilitated over 94,000 dialysis sessions and treated 7,078 outpatients.

The upcoming 100-bed hospital will feature 50 dialysis beds, 20 ICU beds, four modular surgery blocks, a digital library, parking, and patient rest areas. According to Dr. KH Daskshayini, Dean and Director of Mysuru Medical College and Research Institute (MMCRI), the land has been allotted and the foundation stone was laid by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah during the recent Sadhana Samavesha. Construction has begun under the supervision of the state health engineering wing.

Dr. JB Narendra, head of INU Mysuru, emphasized that the facility will play a crucial role in meeting the rising demand for renal care in Mysuru, Mandya, Chamarajanagar, Madikeri, and neighboring regions, ensuring timely and effective treatment.
