Mysuru: Mysuru’s electoral roll is set to shrink significantly following the completion of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), with more than 5.57 lakh voter entries identified for deletion from the existing 27.99 lakh voters.

According to district election officials, the exercise began on June 30 and was completed on August 17. District Election Officer and Deputy Commissioner Lakshmikanth Reddy said around 19.9% of voters had been identified under categories including absent, shifted, deceased and duplicate entries.

Four constituencies see major deletions

Narasimharaja constituency is expected to record the highest number of deletions, with more than 99,000 voter entries identified for removal.

It is followed by Krishnaraja with around 86,000 deletions, Chamaraja with 85,000 and Chamundeshwari with 75,000.

The changes could bring the voter count in Narasimharaja down from around 3.3 lakh to below 2.3 lakh. In Chamundeshwari, the electorate is expected to fall from around 3.6 lakh to below 2.8 lakh.

Periyapatna has recorded the lowest number of proposed deletions at around 22,800.

Duplicate and absent voters flagged

Officials cited cases where the same person was found registered at multiple locations. One booth-level officer, for instance, reportedly had electoral entries in his home district, workplace area and Mysuru.

After retaining one valid registration, the other entries will be deleted as permanently shifted.

Around 1.3 lakh absent voters have also been flagged during the verification process. Officials said such cases could involve duplicate or incorrect voter details requiring deletion or correction.

Notices may follow verification

Reddy said there had been no complaints regarding the SIR process during the 49-day exercise and maintained that the electoral roll had been cleaned.

District authorities said spelling corrections would be handled by the Assistant Electoral Registration Officer. Where larger discrepancies or doubts over identity are found, voters will receive notices and may be required to appear with supporting documents.

The revised entries will form part of the draft SIR electoral roll, which is expected to be announced soon.
