Mysuru: The Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) is all set to issue a global tender this year for the much-anticipated Peripheral Ring Road (PRR) project. With ₹7.75 crore allocated in the current state budget, the project aims to relieve traffic congestion and promote urban development in and around the city.

A previous tender in 2023 failed to attract bidders and was subsequently cancelled. However, with Mysuru seeing rapid expansion within a 25 km radius, similar to Bengaluru’s earlier trajectory, MUDA is pressing ahead with renewed efforts.

The Outer Ring Road, developed more than two decades ago, contributed significantly to Mysuru’s growth—boosting tourism and increasing the city’s vehicular density. Today, nearly 8 lakh vehicles are registered under the Mysuru Regional Transport Authority, highlighting the growing need for improved infrastructure.

The PRR is envisioned as a 105.31-km-long and 45-meter-wide corridor, designed with three main lanes on each side along with two service lanes. It will serve as a key traffic diversion route, supporting Mysuru’s expansion and industrial clusters that have emerged on the city’s outskirts.

MUDA Commissioner AN Raghunandan stated that the project will be developed through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. A fresh Detailed Project Report (DPR) will be prepared post government approvals, which will also define the estimated cost and project parameters.

With parallel plans for upgrading the Mysuru-Mangaluru National Highway and launching a Mysuru-Chennai bullet train by 2031, the PRR forms a crucial part of the city’s future mobility network.
