Nanjangud: Students of Deburu Government Adarsha Pre-University (PU) College are facing difficulties commuting to and from the institution, alleging that transport buses frequently fail to stop near the college on the Nanjangud-Hullahalli main road.
The students said the lack of a regular bus stop in front of the college is affecting their ability to reach classes on time and return safely to their villages after college hours.
Students complain of irregular bus stops
According to the students, buses operating on the route often pass without stopping near the college despite the presence of students waiting to board.
When passengers question conductors about the issue, they are reportedly told to approach the depot manager with their complaints.
Students said that although buses stop at the location for a day or two after complaints are made, the service soon returns to its earlier pattern of skipping the stop.
They have also alleged that buses sometimes stop only when someone begins recording the incident on a mobile phone.
The students said the repeated uncertainty has made daily travel particularly difficult, as they cannot be sure whether they will be able to board a bus after classes.
Allegations of misbehaviour
Students have raised concerns about the manner in which some conductors allegedly deal with them.
They claimed that on some occasions buses have started moving before students have completely boarded, creating a safety risk.
There are also allegations that some conductors have verbally abused or misbehaved with students when they requested that the bus be stopped.
Students further alleged that they were taunted with remarks asking them to protest or even block the road if they wanted the bus service to stop at the location.
The students said such behaviour is particularly concerning because many of those dependent on the bus service are young people travelling between the college and their villages.
Students seek action from authorities
The students approached MLA Darshan Dhruvanarayana seeking a solution to the problem.
They said the MLA instructed the concerned depot manager to ensure that buses stopped near the college. However, according to the students, the problem has continued despite the direction.
The students have questioned why the instruction has not resulted in a permanent solution.
They have demanded action against transport department officials if they failed to implement the instructions and have urged the authorities to intervene immediately.
Demand for permanent bus stop
The students have called for a permanent and clearly designated bus stop in front of Deburu Government Adarsha PU College.
They said a regular stopping point would make commuting easier for students and also improve their safety while boarding and getting off buses.
The students have urged the transport authorities to ensure that buses operating along the Nanjangud-Hullahalli main road stop at the college during appropriate hours.
They have also sought monitoring of the service to ensure that the arrangement is followed consistently rather than only for a few days after complaints are made.
The students said a permanent solution would help them attend classes without worrying about missing buses and would also make their return journeys to their villages more predictable.
