Mysuru: JD(S) leader and former minister Sa Ra Mahesh has announced that party youth wing state president Nikhil Kumaraswamy will launch the “Janarondige Janatadala” membership enrolment campaign in the district from February 18. The initiative is aimed at strengthening the grassroots structure of the Janata Dal Secular and expanding its active membership base across Assembly segments.

Addressing a media conference, Mahesh said the first event under the campaign will be held at Periyapatna, where Nikhil Kumaraswamy will interact with party workers, local leaders and supporters. The programme will focus on enrolling new members and energising booth-level and taluk-level units.

District-wide schedule announced

Mahesh outlined a phased schedule for the membership campaign across several constituencies in the district over the coming days. According to him, the February 18 programme at Periyapatna will be conducted along with former MLA K. Mahadevu and taluk-level leaders.

He said the next major event will be held at K.R. Nagar on February 22, where he himself will participate along with local leaders and party functionaries. The campaign will then move to Bannur town on February 24, with the participation of former MLA K. Ashvin Kumar and leaders from T. Narasipur taluk.

Another programme is scheduled at Hunsur on February 25, where MLA G.D. Harish Gowda and taluk-level leaders are expected to join the outreach effort. Each event will include membership registration drives, worker interactions and strategy meetings aimed at strengthening local committees.

Mahesh said the remaining schedules covering Varuna, Chamundeshwari, H.D. Kote Assembly segments and city segments will be finalised shortly after internal consultations.

Focus on organisational strengthening

The former minister said the campaign is part of a broader effort to reorganise and strengthen the party structure across the state. He noted that organisational changes are already under way in the district, with new leadership appointments made to improve coordination and outreach.

He stated that the party’s district-city unit is now headed by SBM Manju, while Ashvin Kumar has taken charge as district-rural president. According to Mahesh, both appointments are expected to give fresh momentum to party activities and membership expansion.

He added that taluk unit presidents may be replaced wherever necessary based on performance and organisational needs. The objective, he said, is to ensure that active and committed leaders are placed at every level of the structure.

State leadership guidance highlighted

Mahesh said the membership drive and restructuring exercise are being conducted under the direction of Union Minister H D Kumaraswamy and the guidance of former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda. He emphasised that the senior leadership wants the party to reconnect directly with people and rebuild confidence among workers.

According to him, the “Janarondige Janatadala” campaign is designed as a people-centric outreach model, where leaders directly meet citizens instead of limiting activities to office-level meetings. Feedback collected during these events will also be used to shape local issue-based programmes.

Mahesh said Nikhil Kumaraswamy has already completed similar membership and outreach events in 52 Assembly segments across the state and will continue touring other districts in the coming weeks.

Leaders attend press briefing

Several party leaders and former representatives were present at the media briefing where the campaign details were announced. Among those present were MLA G.D. Harish Gowda, MLC C.N. Manjegowda, former MLAs K. Mahadevu and K. Ashvin Kumar, former mayors R. Lingappa and M.G. Ravi Kumar (Chinni), Bhagyavathi, former Zilla Panchayat member C.J. Dwarakesh, and local leaders Ravi (Chamaraja) and Abhishek (Varuna).

Party sources said the campaign will include door-to-door enrolment support, local membership counters and digital registration options to make the process easier for supporters.

Conclusion

With the membership enrolment drive set to begin, JD(S) leaders expect renewed cadre mobilisation and organisational consolidation in the district. The party aims to use the Janarondige Janatadala campaign to expand its base, energise workers and prepare the ground for upcoming political contests through sustained grassroots engagement.
