Mysuru: The city of Mysuru and surrounding areas received a good spell of rain late on Tuesday night, bringing much-needed relief from the prevailing heat and leading to a noticeable drop in temperature levels.
The rainfall came after a day marked by hot and sunny conditions. Until Tuesday afternoon, the weather remained dry and warm, with residents experiencing rising daytime temperatures typical of the pre-summer period in Karnataka.
Rain begins with drizzles
According to residents, light drizzles began around 11 pm on Tuesday. What started as a mild shower gradually intensified into steady rainfall that continued for more than two hours. The consistent downpour cooled the atmosphere and refreshed the city’s streets, trees and open spaces.
Though there were no immediate reports of waterlogging or major disruptions, the rain was sufficient to bring down the temperature and clear the humid conditions that had prevailed earlier in the day.
Weather observers noted that such late-night showers are not uncommon during seasonal transition periods, particularly when local atmospheric conditions favour brief but intense spells of rain.
Pleasant morning for residents
By Wednesday morning, Mysuru woke up to significantly cooler weather. The air felt fresh, and the sky remained partly cloudy in several parts of the city. Early morning walkers and fitness enthusiasts thronged parks and walking tracks, taking advantage of the pleasant conditions.
Residents expressed relief from the recent spell of heat, saying the rain had made the weather far more comfortable. The cooling effect was particularly noticeable during the early hours, when the city usually begins to warm up quickly.
Local vendors and shopkeepers also welcomed the change, noting that the rain had temporarily eased the discomfort caused by rising temperatures over the past few days.
Seasonal transition period
The recent spell of rain comes at a time when many parts of Karnataka are witnessing a gradual rise in mercury levels as the state transitions from winter to summer. In recent days, daytime temperatures had climbed steadily, signalling the onset of warmer conditions.
Meteorologists often attribute such isolated night-time showers to localised weather systems and moisture build-up. While these spells provide short-term respite, they may not necessarily indicate a prolonged change in the overall seasonal trend.
For now, however, the rain has offered Mysuru residents a welcome break from the heat. The cooler atmosphere and refreshed surroundings have enhanced the city’s characteristic charm, at least temporarily.
With summer approaching in the coming weeks, citizens are hopeful that similar showers may occur intermittently, helping to moderate temperatures and maintain comfortable conditions.
