Mysuru: Residents of Agrahara in Mysuru have raised concerns over the repeated bursting of firecrackers late at night near Ramanuja Road, alleging noise pollution, public nuisance and harassment in residential areas. The issue has sparked complaints on social media, with citizens urging authorities to take immediate action against those responsible.
According to residents, firecrackers were burst around 1 am on Wednesday, disturbing senior citizens, children and animals living in the locality. The complaints come amid allegations that similar incidents have been occurring repeatedly despite appeals to law enforcement agencies.
Residents seek urgent intervention
A resident identified on social media as Vidwath Mysuru posted on X (formerly Twitter), highlighting the issue and tagging the Mysuru City Police Commissioner and Superintendent of Police.
In the post, the resident alleged that repeated complaints and follow-ups had failed to produce any effective action. The resident described the late-night bursting of firecrackers as a serious disturbance to families living in the area.
According to the complaint, the sudden loud explosions were causing distress to children, senior citizens and pets. The resident argued that the activity could not be considered a celebration and instead amounted to a deliberate disturbance in a residential neighbourhood.
Concerns over safety and enforcement
Residents questioned the lack of enforcement against those allegedly responsible for the repeated incidents. They claimed that continued inaction was emboldening anti-social elements and allowing such activities to continue unchecked.
Among the measures suggested by residents were intensified night patrols, stricter monitoring of residential areas, seizure of illegally used firecrackers and penalties against violators.
Locals have also called for greater police presence during late-night hours to deter nuisance activities and ensure public peace.
More residents echo concerns
Several other residents joined the discussion online and shared similar concerns.
One resident, Chitra R Hemmige, stated that the situation was creating unnecessary fear and disturbance in the locality. The resident further alleged that individuals bursting firecrackers often resorted to threats when questioned by local residents.
Another resident, Patricia, stressed the need for increased night patrols in residential areas such as Alanahalli Layout and surrounding neighbourhoods. According to the post, enhanced police monitoring could help prevent illegal firecracker activity and improve safety for residents.
Police assure action
Responding to the complaints, the Commissioner of Police, Mysuru, stated that the matter had been forwarded to the Krishnaraja Police Inspector for necessary action.
Police authorities also advised residents to contact the emergency helpline 112 in urgent situations so that immediate assistance can be provided.
The incident has once again highlighted concerns about noise pollution and the enforcement of regulations governing the use of firecrackers in residential areas. Residents are now hoping that authorities will take swift measures to prevent further disturbances and maintain peace in the neighbourhood.
