Mysuru: Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel of the Mysuru Division arrested a 26-year-old man red-handed while he was allegedly carrying railway property stolen from a condemned coach at Ashokapuram railway station.
According to Girish Dharmaraj Kalagonda, Divisional Commercial Manager and PRO of Railways, the incident occurred during the intervening night of August 26 and 27.
RPF constable spots suspicious movement
Mujamil Khan, an RPF constable posted in Mysuru, was on duty at Ashokapuram Yard when he noticed a person moving suspiciously while carrying an electric motor.
When the suspect attempted to flee, Khan alerted Dinesh Kumar, Post Commander of RPF, Mysuru, and pursued him. An RPF team was immediately dispatched to the spot and detained the man.
The accused was identified as Ashish, 26, a resident of Bihar. He was found carrying an electric motor valued at around Rs 4,000. Further investigation revealed that the motor had allegedly been taken from a condemned railway coach at Ashokapuram station.
A case has been registered and further action is being taken as per the rules.
Lost mobile phone returned to passenger
In another incident, RPF personnel recovered a passenger’s lost mobile phone under Operation Amanat.
The RPF received information that a passenger had left a mobile phone behind in Train No. 16021, the Chennai–Mysuru Express, after the train arrived at Mysuru station.
Rudramurthy, Head Constable, RPF, searched the coach and recovered the phone, valued at approximately Rs 10,000.
The mobile phone was subsequently handed over to K. Jayalakshmi, 44, a resident of Chennai, after due verification. The passenger appreciated the prompt assistance provided by the RPF personnel.
