The city of Mysuru is preparing to become the birthplace of ‘Sadbhava’, a national initiative aimed at fostering peace and social harmony across India amid evolving societal challenges.
According to Sabiha Bhoomigowda, chairperson of the movement’s welcome committee, a preparatory gathering will take place on Wednesday, June 25, from 11 am to 5 pm at the Youth Hostel in Gangothri Layout, Mysuru. The objective is to lay the groundwork for this peace-driven initiative. Later that evening, at 6:30 pm, a public event will be held at Kirurangamandira, located within Karnataka Kalamandira on Hunsur Road, to unveil the movement’s official poster.
‘Sadbhava’ aspires to initiate a nationwide call for unity, distancing itself from political ambition, corruption, and materialism. Instead, it promotes Gandhian ideals—addressing human discord through compassion, coexistence, and environmental harmony.
The preparatory meet will feature Gandhians, scholars, artists, and cultural figures from across India. Key participants include Vijay Pratap (national convener of Bapu-Ke-Log), Prasanna (IPTA president), Rakesh Ved (IPTA working president), Balan (Kerala-based intellectual), P.G.R. Sindhia (former minister), Saroj Tulsidas, and actor Prakash Rai.
The poster launch will occur in Kannada (by Sindhia), Hindi (by Pratap), and English (by Ved), while Prasanna will present the Sadbhava theme song. Sabiha, a writer and former VC of Karnataka State Akkamahadevi Women’s University, emphasized that the movement draws inspiration from the innocence of children, wisdom of elders, and humility of the poor, advocating simplicity over a complex, consumerist world.
