Mysuru: The Mysuru City Police and Mysuru district police have organised the third edition of the ‘Safe Mysuru’ run on March 1, featuring 5 km and 10 km categories. The initiative aims to create awareness about the ill effects of narcotic substances and the prevention of cyber offences through community participation and outreach.

Interested members of the public can enrol for the run by registering their names in advance. Police officials said the event is open to participants across all age groups, including families, students, working professionals and senior citizens.

Third edition of the initiative

Speaking about the event, Southern Range IGP M.B. Boralingaiah said this is the third year of the Safe Mysuru initiative.

“The second edition recorded around 9,000 participants, making it the largest participation for a run of its kind in Karnataka,” he said.

For this year’s edition, the police are expecting more than 5,000 runners to take part in the event. Officials expressed confidence that the strong turnout in previous years reflects growing public support for awareness-driven initiatives led by the police.

Route and schedule

The run will commence at 6 a.m. from Kote Anjaneya Swamy Temple and will culminate at the same point. The organisers have chosen the centrally located landmark to ensure convenience and easy access for participants and spectators.

Separate routes have been designed for the 5 km and 10 km categories to ensure smooth conduct of the event and participant safety. Traffic arrangements and security measures will be put in place to facilitate the run without causing major inconvenience to the public.

Focus on narcotics and cyber safety

Police officials said the primary objective of the Safe Mysuru Run is to strengthen the partnership between the public and the police while delivering clear messages on drug abuse prevention and cyber safety.

With rising concerns over narcotics consumption and cyber fraud cases, the initiative seeks to sensitise citizens about the risks associated with substance abuse and online crimes. Through such outreach programmes, the police aim to encourage community vigilance and responsible digital behaviour.

Commissioner of Police Seema Latkar, Superintendent of Police Mallikarjun Baladandi and DCP K.S. Sundar Raj were present during the announcement of the event and appealed to the public to participate in large numbers.

Officials emphasised that beyond promoting awareness, the run also encourages a healthy lifestyle and community bonding. By bringing together thousands of citizens for a common cause, the Safe Mysuru initiative aspires to build a safer, healthier and more informed society.

Registrations are currently open, and police have urged residents to make the most of the opportunity to contribute to the cause while embracing fitness and civic responsibility.
