Bengaluru: A 39-year-old scooter rider died after losing control of his vehicle and crashing into a road median on the Mysuru Road flyover in western Bengaluru in the early hours of Monday.
The deceased has been identified as Shivaraju, a resident of Srinagar. According to police, he was returning home after work when the accident occurred at around 1.45 am near Veterinary Junction.
Rider loses control of scooter
Police said Shivaraju was allegedly riding at high speed when he lost control of the scooter on the Mysuru Road overpass.
The scooter crashed into the road divider, throwing Shivaraju from the vehicle. He suffered a severe head injury in the impact.
He was immediately rushed to a hospital, but succumbed to his injuries before treatment could be administered.
Traffic police begin investigation
Following the accident, the body was shifted to Victoria Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Personnel from the Chamarajpet traffic police visited the accident spot and conducted an inspection. A case has been registered in connection with the incident and further investigation is under way.
The accident has once again highlighted the risks faced by motorists travelling at high speeds during late-night hours, particularly on elevated roads and flyovers.
