Mysuru: Security has been strengthened at the Krishnaraja Sagar (KRS) Reservoir in Srirangapatna following the Cauvery Water Management Authority’s (CWMA) endorsement of the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee’s (CWRC) order to release 12,000 cusecs of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu every day for the next 15 days.
The decision has prompted authorities to step up security measures at the reservoir amid the possibility of protests by farmers and pro-Kannada organisations.
Security tightened at KRS
Mandya District Police have increased the security cover around the KRS reservoir. The front entrance to the reservoir has been barricaded, while additional security personnel have been deployed to monitor the situation.
The measures have been taken as authorities anticipate possible protests over the release of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu.
CCTV cameras installed
CCTV cameras are also being installed at the entrance to the reservoir to closely monitor developments and keep track of movements in the area.
The enhanced security arrangements are aimed at preventing any untoward incidents and maintaining law and order around the important reservoir.
The Cauvery water-sharing issue has historically remained a sensitive matter in Karnataka, particularly among farmers dependent on the river for irrigation.
With the latest water release order in place, authorities are maintaining heightened vigilance at KRS and monitoring developments closely.
