Mysuru: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Sunday called upon newly inducted police sub-inspectors to uphold justice without compromise and work towards building a drug-free and equitable society. He was addressing the passing-out parade of the 46th batch of Civil Police Sub-Inspector trainees at a parade ground in Mysuru.
The Chief Minister emphasised the importance of integrity, discipline, and accountability in policing, stating that officers must serve as responsible representatives of the government while ensuring fairness in their duties.
Emphasis on justice and accountability
Addressing the newly inducted officers, Siddaramaiah stressed that justice must remain the top priority under all circumstances. He cautioned that police personnel should never compromise in the discharge of their duties, regardless of external pressures.
He reminded the trainees that the uniform carries significant responsibility and that their actions directly influence public trust in governance. According to him, discipline, restraint, courage, integrity, and humanity should define the conduct of every police officer.
Focus on drug-free society and emerging crimes
Highlighting key priorities for the police force, the Chief Minister urged officers to actively contribute towards eliminating narcotics. He described substance abuse as a growing concern, particularly among youth and students, and called for sustained efforts to curb the menace.
He also drew attention to emerging challenges such as cybercrime, stressing the need for officers to stay updated with evolving criminal methods and technologies. At the same time, he advised them to maintain a humane approach while dealing with citizens, balancing firmness with compassion.
Protecting vulnerable sections
Siddaramaiah underscored the need for police to safeguard vulnerable sections of society, including women and children. Invoking the vision of Mahatma Gandhi, he stated that true independence is reflected in a society where women can move freely and fearlessly, even at midnight.
He urged officers to ensure safety and security for all citizens, reinforcing the idea that effective policing goes beyond enforcement and includes building confidence among the public.
Strengthening police force and recruitment
The Chief Minister noted that 327 sub-inspectors are joining the police force as part of the current batch. He added that the government has filled thousands of vacancies in recent years and plans to continue recruitment to strengthen the police department.
Reiterating government support, he assured that necessary resources and infrastructure would be provided to enable efficient functioning of the force.
Recognition for training academy
Commending the quality of training and the parade, Siddaramaiah announced a reward of Rs 2 lakh for the officers and staff of the Karnataka Police Academy. He praised their efforts in preparing the trainees and maintaining high standards.
The event was attended by senior officials and dignitaries, including Home Minister G Parameshwara, Ministers H C Mahadevappa and K Venkatesh, and Director General of Police Alok Mohan.
