Mysuru: A Mysuru-based organisation, Save Hindu Temples, has called for a massive silent protest in the city on Wednesday to condemn what it describes as increasing instances of verbal abuse and attacks against Hindu religious leaders and institutions.
Call to protect dignity of seers
Addressing the media, founder M M Nikhilesh said the protest is aimed at highlighting the need to safeguard the dignity and respect of Hindu seers and mutts.
He expressed concern over what he termed a growing trend of using derogatory language against swamijis, adding that such actions must be strongly opposed. The theme of the protest has been announced as “Our Gurus – Our Pride”.
Protest not politically motivated
Nikhilesh clarified that the demonstration is not directed against any specific individual or political party. He described it as a collective effort by devotees and members of the community to stand in support of spiritual leaders.
“It is a process to safeguard our religious heads. The culture of insulting spiritual leaders must end,” he said, urging people to participate peacefully.
Details of the silent march
The silent protest is scheduled to begin at 10 am in front of the Gandhi statue near the Court Complex on Vani Vilas Road. Organisers have appealed to citizens and devotees to join in large numbers and express solidarity.
Participants are expected to march peacefully, adhering to the principles of a silent demonstration while conveying their message against what the organisers termed as forces attempting to demean religious faith.
Appeal for public participation
The organisation has called upon members of the public, particularly devotees and followers of various mutts, to take part in the protest and make it a significant show of unity.
Organisers believe that such collective action will send a strong message about the importance of respecting religious institutions and leaders.
Conclusion
The planned silent protest reflects rising concerns among sections of society regarding the treatment of religious figures. The turnout and response to the demonstration are likely to indicate the level of public sentiment on the issue.
