Mysuru: A sports ground developed by the Mysuru Development Authority (MDA), formerly known as MUDA, on Kannada Sahitya Parishat Road in Vijayanagar 1st Stage has reportedly become a gathering spot for drinking and other nuisance activities after dark, raising concern among local residents.
Empty bottles litter the ground
The ground is used for sporting activities during the day and is also frequented by residents of Vijayanagar, Hebbal and nearby areas for morning and evening walks.
However, residents say the situation changes after dark, with groups allegedly gathering at the ground to consume alcohol. Empty beer bottles, plastic bottles, covers, cups and disposable plates are reportedly scattered across the premises.
Broken glass bottles have also become a safety concern, particularly for people who use the ground for walking and sporting activities. Residents claim that crates of empty liquor bottles can sometimes be seen around the ground.
Residents seek night patrolling
Several houses and hostels are located opposite the ground, and residents say late-night drinking has caused discomfort and concern among families and students in the area.
According to residents, women, children and students can feel unsafe while travelling along the road after dark because of groups of intoxicated people gathering near the ground.
Residents have also alleged that there is little or no police patrolling in the area at night despite the activity reportedly occurring regularly. They have urged the police and civic authorities to inspect the premises, increase night-time patrolling and take appropriate action to prevent the ground from being misused.
The ground was developed for sporting and recreational activities, and residents have called for steps to restore it as a clean and safe public space.
