MYSURU: Chaos ensued near the main gate of Mysuru Palace late Friday evening when two Dasara elephants engaged in a fight during their dinner time. The incident caused panic among the public as one elephant chased the other out of the palace premises.

The elephants involved, Dhananjaya and Kanjan, created a scene when Dhananjaya attempted to attack Kanjan, prompting the latter to flee. Kanjan’s mahout lost control and fell as the situation escalated. Dhananjaya continued to pursue Kanjan, who eventually crashed into a barricade outside the Jayamarthanda gate around 8 PM. Thankfully, no injuries were reported, and bystanders managed to escape unscathed.

Forest officials noted that the altercation stemmed from the improper handling of the two bull elephants during their feeding. IB Prabhugowda, a wildlife officer, mentioned that typically, cow elephants are positioned between tuskers, or food is served separately to prevent such confrontations.

This incident underscores the need for stricter management protocols when handling these majestic animals during events.
