Mysuru: A 27-year-old woman died after accidentally falling into the Cauvery River while taking a selfie near the parking area at KRS in Srirangapatna taluk on Tuesday.
The deceased has been identified as Kusumanjali, a resident of Ramakrishna Nagar in Mysuru.
Woman slips from retaining wall
According to police, Kusumanjali was at KRS with her mother Veena when the incident occurred.
She reportedly sat on the retaining wall near the river to take a selfie. She accidentally slipped and fell into the water in front of her mother.
The sudden incident left her mother helpless as Kusumanjali fell into the river.
Body recovered from river
Police and rescue personnel launched an operation following the incident and recovered Kusumanjali’s body from the Cauvery River.
The body was subsequently shifted to the mortuary at KR Hospital in Mysuru for post-mortem examination.
Police investigate incident
KRS police have registered a case and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The incident has once again highlighted the dangers of getting too close to the edge of rivers and other water bodies while attempting to take photographs or selfies, particularly at locations where a slip or loss of balance can have fatal consequences.
