Mysuru: A 46-year-old woman was found dead at her residence in Saraswathipuram in what police suspect to be a case of suicide following a domestic dispute. The incident has taken a dramatic turn after the deceased woman’s daughter accused her father and brother of harassment and holding them responsible for her mother’s death.
The deceased has been identified as Sandhya (46), a native of Bengaluru who had married Ranganath from Chamarajanagar district about 25 years ago. The couple has two children — a daughter, Srishti, who is pursuing higher studies abroad, and a 17-year-old son, Kaushik, who resides with his parents.
According to police, the incident occurred on Wednesday night after a heated argument between the couple over a proposed leisure trip. Officials said that following the quarrel, Ranganath and his son stepped out of the house. Upon returning later, they allegedly found Sandhya hanging from a ceiling fan in her bedroom.
Local residents alerted the police, and a case was registered at Saraswathipuram Police Station. She was declared dead at the scene. The body was shifted for post-mortem examination, and further investigation is underway.
Daughter levels serious allegations
After receiving news of her mother’s death, Srishti returned from abroad and made serious allegations against her father and brother. She claimed that her mother had been subjected to continuous mental harassment, suspicion and financial pressure.
According to her statement, her father frequently doubted Sandhya’s actions and demanded money. She further alleged that her younger brother acted under their father’s instructions. Srishti has demanded strict legal action against both and has insisted that her maternal uncle, rather than her father or brother, perform the last rites.
Her allegations have added a new dimension to the case, prompting police to examine possible angles beyond a routine case of suicide.
Husband denies charges
Ranganath has denied all allegations. He admitted that an argument had taken place regarding the travel plan but maintained that he had not harmed his wife in any manner.
He stated that he had previously supported her travel plans, including international trips. Refuting claims of financial harassment, he said that nearly 90% of his property had been transferred in his wife’s name.
“I have nothing to hide. The investigation and forensic reports will reveal the truth,” he said, expressing confidence that the inquiry would establish facts.
Son’s version
Kaushik, who claims to have been present during the events leading up to the incident, also defended his father. He stated that his mother became upset when his father requested postponement of the trip due to his upcoming examinations.
He suggested that the emotional impact of the disagreement might have contributed to her distress. However, he denied any form of harassment or physical harm.
Investigation under way
Police officials said they are conducting a detailed inquiry, including forensic examination, digital evidence analysis and recording statements from family members and neighbours.
Investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding the argument, the timeline of events and any prior complaints or indications of domestic discord. Authorities stated that further legal action will depend on the findings of the post-mortem and forensic reports.
The incident has sparked discussions on domestic disputes and mental health, with authorities urging families to seek counselling and mediation in times of conflict.
Police have appealed to the public to avoid speculation and allow the investigation to proceed. Further updates are expected once the inquiry progresses.
