Mysuru: Mysuru-Kodagu Member of Parliament Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar has appealed to his supporters and the public to avoid lavish celebrations for his birthday on March 24 and instead engage in meaningful social service activities.

In a message circulated through party groups and social media platforms, the MP expressed gratitude for the affection shown by his followers but clearly stated his opposition to extravagant celebrations such as erecting flex banners and posters.

Call for meaningful celebrations

In his appeal, Wadiyar urged people to mark the occasion in a socially responsible manner. He encouraged activities such as blood donation drives, distribution of food to the needy, and planting of saplings.

“Let us make this day meaningful by contributing to society,” he said, stressing that such acts would be a more valuable way of celebrating than spending on decorations or publicity materials.

Push for a flex-free Mysuru

Highlighting concerns over environmental damage and visual pollution, Wadiyar made a strong appeal to maintain the aesthetic beauty of Mysuru.

He urged supporters not to install flex banners or posters anywhere in the city in his name, noting that such materials harm the environment and detract from the heritage charm of Mysuru.

“Preserving the beauty of our cultural capital is our collective responsibility,” he said, adding that he envisions a “Flex-Free Mysuru” beginning with his birthday.

The MP also stated that he has instructed his team to immediately remove any banners if they are put up, reinforcing his commitment to the initiative.

Cleanliness advocacy and past efforts

Wadiyar’s appeal aligns with his long-standing association with cleanliness and civic responsibility initiatives. Before entering politics in 2024, he, along with his mother, had served as an ambassador for the Mysuru City Corporation under the Swachh Bharat Mission.

During the 2024 Lok Sabha election campaign, Wadiyar also actively participated in cleanliness drives. Following a public rally addressed by Narendra Modi at Maharaja’s College Ground, he joined civic workers in cleaning the venue the next morning.

His efforts drew appreciation from residents, with several morning walkers volunteering alongside him and his wife, Trishika Kumari Wadiyar, to clear waste left after the event.

Emphasis on civic responsibility

Through his latest appeal, Wadiyar has once again emphasised the importance of civic sense and community participation. He noted that citizens’ cooperation is essential to maintain cleanliness and protect the city’s heritage.

He concluded his message by invoking the blessings of Goddess Sri Chamundeshwari for the well-being and prosperity of all citizens.

Conclusion

The MP’s call to celebrate his birthday through service rather than display reflects a broader push towards responsible public behaviour and environmental consciousness. If widely followed, such initiatives could contribute to making Mysuru cleaner and more sustainable.
