Mysuru: A disturbing case involving alleged abduction, forced identity change, and exploitation has come to light after a youth from Nanjangud approached the police with serious allegations against a group operating across districts.
The complainant, identified as Anil Kumar, a resident of Thyagaraja Colony in Nanjangud, has filed a complaint at the Nanjangud Town Police Station accusing a Mangaluru-based transgender individual, Anita, and her associates of kidnapping and exploitation.
Alleged abduction from Mysuru bus stand
According to the complaint, the incident began around four months ago when Anil Kumar was waiting at the Mysuru Suburban Bus Stand. He alleged that the accused approached him, masked him, and rendered him unconscious before abducting him to Mangaluru.
After being taken to a different location, he claims he was forced to adopt a different identity and lifestyle against his will.
Forced identity and exploitation claims
In his statement to the police, Anil Kumar alleged that he was made to dress in sarees and jewellery and compelled to pose as a transgender person to collect money from shops. He claimed he was forced to earn between ₹2,000 and ₹3,000 daily, which was taken by the accused group.
Further, he alleged that he was sent to various locations in Mangaluru and even to parts of Kerala, where he was forced into sex work. The complaint describes a pattern of exploitation, coercion, and control exercised by the accused over several months.
Alleged document manipulation
The complainant has also alleged that the accused attempted to institutionalise his forced identity by altering official records. He claimed that his gender was changed to “transgender” on his Aadhaar card and that a certificate was obtained from the Social Welfare Department.
He further stated that there were plans to take him to Mumbai for a permanent sex reassignment surgery. Fearing this, he decided to escape from the group.
Escape and threats
After returning to Nanjangud, Anil Kumar approached the police and filed a formal complaint. He also alleged that when he demanded payment of around ₹3 lakh, which he claims to have earned during the period, the accused threatened to implicate him in a false theft case involving ₹5 lakh and gold ornaments.
Additionally, he reported that members of the group later came to his residence and created a disturbance, allegedly attempting to pressure him into returning.
The complainant clarified to the police that he does not have any gender identity concerns and maintains that he was a victim of a criminal racket.
Police investigation underway
The Nanjangud Town Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the allegations. Officials are expected to verify the claims, gather evidence, and identify all individuals involved in the alleged network.
Police sources indicated that the case involves multiple serious charges, including kidnapping, wrongful confinement, extortion, and trafficking, though further details will emerge as the investigation progresses.
Conclusion
The case has raised serious concerns about organised criminal activities involving exploitation and coercion. Authorities are expected to conduct a thorough probe to establish the facts and ensure appropriate legal action. Meanwhile, officials have urged the public to report suspicious activities and support law enforcement efforts in tackling such crimes.
