Mysuru: Youth Congress workers who attempted to lay siege to the office of Mysuru MP Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar on Wednesday were detained by police following a protest over the alleged NEET question paper leak.

The protest was organised by Youth Congress activists, who accused the central government of failing to prevent irregularities in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) examination process. The demonstration led to tension near the Public Offices Building, also known as the CADA Building, where the MP’s office is located.

Protest march towards MP’s office

According to police sources, Youth Congress workers gathered in Mysuru city and marched towards the office of Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar to stage a protest against the alleged paper leak controversy linked to NEET examinations.

The activists raised slogans criticising the Centre and demanded accountability over examination security and student welfare issues.

As the protesters approached the Public Offices Building, police personnel deployed at the spot prevented them from entering the premises.

Barricades had been placed at the main gate as a precautionary measure in anticipation of the protest.

Heated exchange near barricades

Tension escalated when protesters attempted to move past the barricades to reach the MP’s office. This led to a heated argument and brief jostling between police personnel and Youth Congress activists.

Police officers repeatedly appealed to the demonstrators to maintain order and avoid breaching security arrangements. However, protesters insisted on proceeding towards the office premises to submit their demands and continue the demonstration.

Angered by the police action, several activists staged a sit-in protest on the road near the barricaded area, disrupting movement temporarily.

The demonstrators accused the central government of failing to ensure transparency and fairness in national-level examinations.

Police detain protesters

Following the road blockade and escalating protest, police detained the Youth Congress workers and shifted them in police vehicles from the protest site.

Officials stated that the detentions were carried out as a preventive measure to maintain law and order and avoid any untoward incidents in the area.

After being taken into custody, the activists were later released by the police.

Authorities confirmed that adequate police personnel had been deployed around the Public Offices Building and nearby areas to ensure security during the protest.

NEET controversy sparks political protests

The alleged NEET paper leak issue has triggered protests and political reactions in several parts of the country, with opposition parties accusing the Centre of failing to protect the integrity of competitive examinations.

Youth Congress leaders have been organising demonstrations in different cities demanding stricter action against those responsible for examination irregularities and stronger safeguards for students appearing for national entrance tests.

In Mysuru, Wednesday’s protest remained largely peaceful despite brief confrontations between police and demonstrators.

Traffic movement near the protest site was affected for a short period before normalcy was restored following the detention and dispersal of protesters.

Police officials stated that the situation remained under control throughout the protest and no major untoward incident was reported.
