‘Involve special child in all social gathering proudly’

Mangaluru: Thank You Karnataka is a series of programmes organised to celebrate decennial year of News Karnataka and thus thank Kannadigas all over the globe for supporting the Spearhead Media Group to achieve this milestone.

One of the programmes under Thank You Karnataka series is Walk the Special Path, a show promoting sensitivity, awareness and most importantly, social inclusion of disabled children, which is aired on Monday.

The Guest of the ninth episode held on Monday December 26 are parents of specially-abled children, Lakshmi Prabhu and Dr. Kantini Pramod Kumar. The anchor person for the programme is Meena Noronha.

The programme premiered on NewsKarnataka.com’s YouTube Channel.

Lakshmi Prabhu and Dr. Kantini Pramod Kumar expressing their initial reaction of being a mothers of special children shared, “We were not ready to accept the truth. And it was an emotion of fear and denial.”

Dr. Kantini Pramod Kumar shared, “My son under went other health issues along with autism because of medical negligence. With the help of my son I am today a proud parent.”

Lakshmi Prabhu expressed, “For me is a different attitude of my son which I am dealing with. Where as my family was my greatest support,” she said. For Dr. Kantini the initial five years in the family continued with denial and comparision of her specially abled son with normal kids.

The guest discussed on the significance of support groups for parents and vocational training centres for special kids.

As experienced parent of a special child Lakshmi Prabhu advised, “Discuss your problems with other special parents and you will find solutions. Never lose hope. Improve your child from yesterday to today.”

Dr. Kantini Pramod advised the parents to involve their special child in all the social gathering and be a proud parent.

All the guests and anchor emphasised the significance of siblings in a special child’s life and stated them to be a better guardians.

Speaking on certain lack of facilities in Mangaluru for special children, both parents expressed gratitude for making them a part of the programme.
