Mangaluru: Thank You Karnataka is a series of programmes organised to celebrate decennial year of NewsKarnataka and thus thank Kannadigas all over the globe for supporting the Spearhead Media Group to achieve this milestone.
One of the programme under the series is Social Work, Education & Practice in India, a show that throws light on social work and education which will be aired every Tuesday.
The guest of the first episode which aired on October 4 is Dr. Gracy Fernandes, DHM, Former VP Nirmala Niketan Institute, Mumbai, Former Director Research, School of Social Service, Madagascar. The anchor person for the programme is Brian Fernandes, Director, Spearhead Media Group.
The programme was premiered on NewsKarnataka.com’s YouTube channels.
Answering the question, is social work a charity, Dr. Gracy Fernandes replied, “Social work as charity is common understanding.” She also shared the information on the diploma and master courses available in social work and added it to be professional too.
Dr. Gracy Fernandes shared her experience with prostitutes who were rescued, the deceit played on them in the name of the job and highlighted the success stories of the victims post rescual.
She also shared the information on her PhD work ‘Child Sponsorship’ and stressed its significance, the success of the programme and its relevance in India.
Ethics in the field of social service too is important and ultimately it is on individual’s values to decide whether to opt for deontological and teleological approach, she said.
