Abu Dhabi, Jan 25: Bunts Dubai bagged the championship both in the men’s and women’s sections in the Late Koosamma Shambhu Shetty Memorial throwball tournament conducted by Abu Dhabi Karnataka Sangha.
The tournament was earlier inaugurated by renowned entrepreneur and patron of Kannada organisations Dr BR Shetty and his wife Dr Chandrakumari BR Shetty.
Nandini Tandon of Duke and Stanford University, Dr Vidya Shetty, Administrative Officer of BR Schools, Dr Rishi, Principal, Vijayachandra, Chief of AIDS, VK Mathu, Advisor of AIDS,Ravindranath, Vice Principal, Valerian D’Almeida, President of KCO, Sudhir Kumar Shetty, Chief Executive Officer of UAE Exchange, Ronald Pinto, Entrepreneur, Seema Nirman and others were present.
Teams from Abu Dhabi Karnataka Sangha, KCO Abu Dhabi, Bunts Dubai, Konkans Dubai, Mogaveers UAE, Mangalore Konkans, Dubai, SMMKC Sharjah and Kanara Catholics Fujairah participated in the keen contest.
Bunts Dubai and Konkans Dubai entered the finals in the men’s category while in the women’s category Bunts Dubai faced a challenge from Abu Dhabi Karnataka Sangha. The Bunts Dubai which won in both the categories clinched the 24th KSSM Trophy.
Dr BR Shetty gave away prizes to the winning teams. In women’s category, the Best Defender Award went to Sangeetha Shetty of Abu Dhabi Karnataka Sangha, Neetha Shetty of Bunts Dubai was declared the Best Striker while Sangeetha Shetty was adjudged the Best Player. In the men’s category, Best Defender Award went to Johnson of Konkans Dubai while Best Striker Award was bagged by Kishore Shetty of Bunts Dubai. The Best Player Award went to Ranjith Shetty of Bunts Dubai.
Oswald couple and Alphonse who have been active in various social activities in UAE, who are returning homeland on retirement were felicitated on behalf of Karnataka Sangha. Satish Shetty, Jayapal Raj,Annette and Jacintha, referees were also honoured.
Shekhar Shetty, Director of Arab Udupi Hotels,Ronald Pinto, Siraj Ahmed of Inland Builders, Sujith Shetty and others were present.
Sarvottam Shetty, President of Abu Dhabi Karnataka Sangha and Rajyotsava Award winner contributed to the success of the event.
