Doha-Qatar: Mangalore Cultural Association, a renowned non-profit community group aegis to ICC, Doha Qatar organized a well entertained evening with GVOM-season 5 semifinal round at the Regency Halls Qatar on Friday, September 30.
The program started at 5.30pm with the MCA theme song sung by MCA Committee members.
As many as 13 best voices of Qatar conquered the hearts of Konkani music lovers around the city. In the female category Carol D’Souza, Anjali Andrade, Eva Wilma Pinto, Sunitha Dsouza, Sarita Mendonca and Jovita Pereira, and in male category Alphonse Dsilva, Naveen Pinto, Naveen Dsouza, Praveen Lobo, Clement Fernandes, Wilson Mendoca and Neil Dsilva enthralled the audience with their best performance in the first round. From female category Carol D’Souza, Anjali Andrade and Jovita Pereira moved to the second round of the semifinal and in male category Clement Fernandes, Wilson Mendonca and Naveen Pinto moved to the second round.
Ace musician from Mangaluru Joswin Pinto with Doha’s leading music troupe ‘Singing Birds’ enthralled Konkani music lovers inside the hall.
The most difficult task of selecting two best voices among the 13 was handed over to the 3 eminent music professionals coming from Mangaluru and Udupi dioceses, Fr Clement Mascarenhas, Sangeeth Sardar Wilson Olivera and Suraj Noronha. In the final decision of the judges, Carol Dsouza and Clement Fernandes were crowned the winners of the semifinal of GVOM-season 5 from Qatar who will move to the final round of GVOM, which will be conducted this November at Bahrain, meanwhile Anjali Andrade and Wilson Mendonca won 1st runner up prizes.
Renowned MC Roland Olivera compered the whole event with his versatile command over Konkani language.
Meanwhile, a small stage program was conducted. Capt. R. Ravi Kumar, Defence Attach of Indian Embassy in Qatar graced the occasion as the chief guest and Walter D’Souza Nandalike was the guest of honour of the evening. MCA President Arthur Pais and Vice-president Aloysius D’Souza escorted the advisory board committee members Felix Lobo, Wilfred Fernandes, Jerry Pinto and Joackim Fernandes along with guests to the stage. Arthur Pais delivered the welcome keynote address. Speaking on the occasion Capt. Ravi Kumar appreciated MCA for its selfless service towards the society and its real mission of promoting Konkani culture and language by conducting singing competitions along with other cultural activities.
As MCA announced earlier, MCA Seva Puraskar -2016 was bestowed on Mangaluru resident Corrine Rasquinha during the event. Corrine Rasquinha is a philanthropist cum social worker who renders her service towards poor, running an orphanage named White Doves at Maroli, Mangaluru. MCA public relation co-ordinator Veena Rebimbus read out citation.
Speaking on the occasion Corrine Rasquinha said, “Life is precious, try to impress the creator not the creations.” With her motivational words, Corrine impressed the audience and told she will continue her selfless service till her last breath.
Aloysius D’Souza proposed the vote of thanks and Cyril crasta compered the stage program.
Konkani Sangeeth Sardar Wilson Olivera and Qatar Konkani singer Rupert Lobo entertained the audience with a few Konkani numbers. Symphony Qatar provided the sound system. Qatar Konkani artists Aloysius D’Souza, Sandeep Noronha, Clara D’Souza, Treesa Goveas, Alwine Goveas and Marlin D’Souza performed a skit. Anushka Fernandes, Greg Dcunha, Ellena Noronha and Shawn Fernandes also performed on the occasion.
