Tulu play ‘Porlu Thuper’ leaves audience in splits

Dubai, Jan 18: “Porlu Thuper” the Tulu social and humorous drama  that was staged at the Sheikh Rashid Auditorium here recently under the aegis of Gammath Kalavider UAE   left the audience in a wave of laughter.

The play   directed by Vishwanath Shetty and authored by Nellu Permannur was presented by  amateur theatre artistes from UAE.The play revolves around daily life incidents and how man’s life takes  its own turn  in accordance to his fate. The play was staged in aid of Sri Matha Lakshani Oldage Home of Bantwal.

Vasu Shetty, Chief of Gammath Kalavider  welcomed the gathering and presented a  mini documentary on the Sri Matha old age home. Harish Bangera, Chief Patron of Gammath Kalavider.  Ligori D’Mello and Margaret D’Mello of Technofit, the main sponsors of the drama, Shekhar Shetty, Director  of Arab Udupi Hotels. Praveen Kumar Shetty, Director of Fortune Group of Hotels, Sudhir Kumar Shetty, Chief Executive Officer of UAE Exchange, Harish Sherigar, Director of Acme Building Materials and Vinu Vishwanath Shetty, entrepreneur lighted the traditional lamp at the function.

Rajesh Kuttar couple, well known artistes, were honoured on the occasion. Rajesh Kuttar is also a dance choreographer,  stage setting expert as well as member  of Gammath Kalavider. The couple were presented a shawl, memento and citation.

Nellu Permannur, the author of Porlu Thuper was also honoured.

Harish Pergade,  the chief of the Sri Matha Lakshani Old Age Home and  eminent social worker too was felicitated. In his address, he urged everyone to contribute their mite for such institutions. A cheque for Rs 4 lakh was presented to Harish Pergade on behalf of  Gammath Kalavider. A cash of Rs 25000 on behalf of Nama Tuluver and Rs one lakh on behalf of SDM College Old students Association was also handed over.

A sum of Rs one lakh  to be handed over to the family of eminent artiste Dharmendra Amin who died of cardiac arrest while on stage  recently, was  presented to Nallu Permannur. The gathering also observed a minute’s silence in respect of the departed artiste.

All patrons and well wishers of the programme were honoured by Vishwanath Shetty, Chief of Gammath Kalavider. Sarvottam Shetty, President of Abu Dhabi Karnataka Sangha, compered the programme.
