Passengers caught trying to smuggle foreign cash at Bangalore airport
Three passengers attempting to smuggle foreign currency worth ₹2.12 crore were intercepted by CISF officers at Kempegowda International Airport on Friday.
The individuals were identified as Sri Lankan nationals Vimalraj Thuraisingam and Thileepan Jayanthikumar, along with an Indian, Veera Kumar. Their suspicious movements caught the attention of Vishal Kumar from the CISF’s Crime and Intelligence Wing, prompting an inquiry.

Following the discovery, the Enforcement Directorate took custody of the trio for deeper investigation into the source and intended destination of the funds. Authorities are probing possible links to larger financial crimes or money laundering networks.
Security personnel remain vigilant at the airport, tightening measures to curb smuggling activities. Officials have reiterated their commitment to cracking down on illicit financial transactions and ensuring stringent security checks.
This incident highlights the growing challenge of cross-border currency smuggling and the crucial role of intelligence-driven surveillance in deterring such crimes. Investigations are ongoing to uncover potential accomplices and unravel the full extent of the operation.
