In a shocking incident reported from Lingasugur town in Karnataka’s Raichur district, a man has been arrested for allegedly murdering his elder brother and attempting to pass off the death as a suicide.
The deceased has been identified as Basavaraj (32), while the accused is his younger brother Sridhar (27). According to police, the incident was linked to ongoing domestic disputes and frequent quarrels allegedly caused by the elder brother’s habitual drunken behaviour.
Investigators said Basavaraj reportedly returned home intoxicated on the day of the incident and created a disturbance, leading to a heated argument between the brothers. In a fit of rage, Sridhar allegedly suffocated him using a pillow.
Police further stated that after the murder, the accused allegedly tried to stage the incident as a suicide. He reportedly used a saree to hang the body from a ceiling fan and damaged the room latch to create the impression of a forced entry or self-harm case.
Later, Sridhar allegedly brought the body down and rushed Basavaraj to the taluk hospital along with their mother, claiming that he might still be alive.
However, doctors at the hospital declared Basavaraj brought dead, raising suspicion over the circumstances surrounding the death.
The case took a turn after the victim’s father, Vasudev, lodged a complaint with the Lingasugur police expressing doubts about the incident.
Senior police officials, including Arunangshu Giri, visited the scene along with Lingasugur DYSP Dattatreya Karnad and Police Inspector Hosakerappa to conduct an investigation.
During questioning, police said Sridhar allegedly confessed to the crime and was subsequently taken into custody.
A case has been registered at the Lingasugur police station and further investigation is underway
