In a tragic incident on Monday night, three individuals lost their lives in Sindhanur town, Raichur, after a speeding lorry overturned, spilling bags of paddy husks onto them. The accident occurred near Dollars Colony Cross, close to the PWD camp, police reported.
The deceased were identified as Shivaraj Rampur (28) and Mallikarjun Sarjapur (29), both junior engineers with the Javalagera Irrigation Department sub-division, and Mahebub (30), a contract-based computer operator. Shivaraj and Mallikarjun were residents of Sindhanur town in Lingasugur taluk.
Authorities stated the trio had parked their bikes by the roadside after completing work at the Javalagera office. While chatting near the main road, a lorry transporting paddy husks from Raichur to Sindhanur overturned, causing the heavy sacks to fall on them. They were trapped beneath the weight and died instantly.
Two motorcycles were also damaged in the accident. Rescue teams, using a JCB, recovered the victims’ bodies, which were sent to Sindhanur’s public hospital for post-mortem.
The lorry driver and cleaner sustained injuries and were hospitalized in Ballari. The Sindhanur City Traffic Police registered a case and are investigating the incident.
This tragic event raises concerns over road safety and the risks posed by overloaded and speeding vehicles.
