Rama Sena group raids Colors Unisex salon in Bejai, Mangalore
In a disturbing incident of moral policing, 11 individuals from the fringe group Rama Sena Javaner stormed Colors Unisex Salon in Bejai, near the KSRTC bus stand in Mangaluru. The attack, led by Prasad Attavar, infamous for his involvement in the 2009 pub attack, occurred at 11:50 am. The group vandalized furniture, assaulted staff, and accused the salon of running a prostitution racket.
Video footage revealed chaotic scenes where women employees were threatened and screamed in fear. Condoms allegedly found on the premises were cited as evidence of “immoral activities,” but salon staff claimed they were planted to malign their reputation. A salon source questioned the attackers’ motives, emphasizing that any illegal activity should have been reported to police rather than taking matters into their own hands.
Chairs and other furniture were destroyed, and one of the attackers filmed the rampage. Following a complaint by salon owner Sudheer Shetty, Barke police registered a case, invoking multiple charges, including trespassing, criminal intimidation, assault, and attempt to murder.
City police commissioner Anupam Agrawal confirmed the arrests of 14 individuals, including Attavar. Home Minister G Parameshwara promised swift action if illegal activities were proven, while District Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao condemned the attack and vowed to investigate the group’s background.
This incident has reignited concerns over rising instances of moral policing in the region.
