Schoolgirls chased, attacked with toxic colours in Gadag
A shocking case of Holi celebrations spiraling into violence has emerged from Lakshmeshwar taluk in Karnataka’s Gadag district. On Friday, a group of 4-5 youths on motorcycles pursued girl students from a government high school, boarded their bus, and doused them with chemical-laced colours, leaving three critically ill.
The victims, Class 8 and 9 students, were waiting at the Suvarnagiri bus stop to head to their exams when the ordeal began. As their bus arrived, the gang hurled a foul concoction of colours, eggs, and dirt at them. In a desperate attempt to escape, the girls boarded the bus and shut the windows. However, the assailants chased them, forcibly entered the bus, and continued the assault, pouring the noxious liquid directly onto the terrified students.
Preliminary investigations have revealed the mixture included phenyl, cow dung, eggs, and chemical colours. Some of the girls inadvertently swallowed traces of the toxic liquid, leading to severe symptoms such as breathlessness and chest pain.
All affected students were rushed to the hospital, with three now in critical condition. The incident has sparked outrage, with parents and locals demanding strict action against the perpetrators.
Authorities have launched a thorough probe, promising swift arrests and stringent measures to prevent such violent misuses of festivals.
