With a new function in Google Maps, you can now add up toll amounts on your journey and choose the option that is cheaper or has no tolls.
Presently, users in the United States, India, Japan, and Indonesia can use the feature on both iOS and Android. It will continue to add more regions in the coming days.
Earlier, Google Maps would only show you whether a route had tolls. The company has collected toll prices from local authorities for roughly 2,000 roads.
“You will see the estimated toll price to your destination before your start navigating thanks to trusted information from local tolling authorities. We look at factors like having a toll pass or not, what the day of the week it is, along with how much the toll is expected to cost at the specific time you’ll be crossing it,” said Google.
To enable the toll prices to appear on Google Maps, users do not need to go into the app’s settings. Simply enter your origin and destination into Google Maps, and it will provide all possible shortest and fewer traffic routes, as well as the estimated toll charges for each road stretch.
There are toll settings to switch on/off, including ‘Avoid Highways,’ ‘Avoid Tolls,’ ‘Avoid Ferries,’ and ‘See Toll Pass Prices,’ as well as a ‘Remember Settings’ page.
“Just noticed that #GoogleMaps displays toll prices which is on your route. That’s a cool feature! It must be in beta stage, hopefully, it’ll start to show exact amount,” tweeted one user.
Another user wrote, “Google Maps will now feature an estimated amount that people will need to pay in tolls. It will help them to pick the best route.”
