Shivamogga: Six police teams, who have been conducting raids on mines across the Shivamogga district, found explosives at some of the sites, informed Inspector-General of Police (Eastern Range) S Ravi on Monday.

The development comes days after six people died as a result of a blast at a stone quarry in Hunasodu of the district. The incident sparked criticism from across the country. Police arrested the quarry owner and a mining explosives supplier in connection with the case within 24 hours of the incident.

IGP Ravi refused to divulge information about the two who were arrested in connection with the blast at the quarry. However, he informed that the sixth victim of the recent quarry blast was a worker at the mine and is believed to be from Bhadravathi.

Chairing a meeting of the Shivamogga district administration on Monday, district in-charge minister K S Eshwarappa sought a report on the various quarries operating in the region illegally.

Meanwhile, the district Deputy Commissioner informed that there are 76 quarries across Shivamogga and 97 stone-crushing units.
