Shivamogga Kote police arrested advocate Souhardh Patel from Bhadravathi for allegedly sending contaminated sweet boxes during New Year celebrations, falsely using the name of BJP MLC Dhananjaya Sarji.

Shivamogga SP Mithun Kumar revealed that Patel acted out of animosity towards Nagaraj, secretary of a legal studies institution. The feud stemmed from Patel’s time as a law student, during which he faced reprimands over a romantic interest in a classmate. Feeling humiliated, Patel sought revenge.

Recently, after spotting Sarji and Nagaraj together at an event, Patel hatched his plan. He laced sweets with his prescribed medications and mailed them to Nagaraj and two doctors, using Sarji’s name to extend New Year greetings. The tampered parcels prompted a complaint by Sarji’s secretary, backed by the BJP district unit.

Police swiftly tracked Patel, arresting him within 48 hours. A Shivamogga court has remanded him to judicial custody.
