In an unexpected turn of events on Tuesday, strong winds and heavy rain caused the roof of a hotel near the Shiroor border to be blown away, resulting in significant damages estimated in lakhs of rupees. The incident occurred due to the forceful gusts in an open area with sparse surrounding structures.

The powerful winds tore off the roof of the hotel located near the highway, scattering steel sheets and rafters across the premises. Interior damage included dislodged ceiling fixtures, such as a ceiling fan that fell due to the impact.

Fortunately, the hotel was closed for operations at the time of the incident, thus averting potential harm to staff or customers who were not present. However, flying steel sheets damaged an electric line, causing disruptions to several poles. Fortunately, the incident did not cause any major traffic disruptions or accidents on the highway due to the low traffic volume during that period.

Post-incident, officials from MESCOM and Shiroor village accountant Vijay Kumar conducted a site inspection to assess the extent of the damage and plan necessary repairs. Immediate steps are being taken to restore the hotel’s infrastructure and ensure safety measures are reinforced.

Social media discussions on the incident are marked by hashtags such as #ShiroorHotelIncident, #StormDamage, #WeatherAlert, and #InfrastructureDamage, reflecting public interest in natural disaster impacts and community response to safeguarding against such occurrences.

This incident underscores the vulnerability of structures to severe weather conditions and emphasizes the importance of preemptive measures and infrastructure resilience planning in disaster-prone areas.
