The District Court in Belagavi has sentenced Anil Chandrakanta Bandekar, a resident of K.H. Kangrali village, to life imprisonment for the brutal murder of his two daughters, driven by superstitious beliefs. The Sixth Additional District Court found Bandekar guilty and imposed an additional fine of ₹20,000.

In a horrifying incident that took place in 2021, Bandekar slit the throats of his eight-year-old daughter Anjali and his four-year-old daughter Ananya. Motivated by blind faith, he believed that pouring their blood over a Shiva Linga near his home would resolve his financial difficulties. Bandekar, burdened with escalating debts and an unsellable property, was convinced by recurring dreams that this gruesome act would attract buyers and end his troubles.

The investigation into this heinous crime was led by dedicated police officers Manjunath Hiremath and Veerabhadra Budannanavar. Their thorough work was commended by Police Commissioner Iada Martin Marbaniang. Public Prosecutor Nasreena Bankapure represented the State in this high-profile case.

The court’s decision underscores the severity of crimes motivated by superstitions and serves as a reminder of the critical need for public awareness and intervention.
