Shivamogga: A sanitation worker employed by the Shivamogga City Corporation was reportedly assaulted by a youth in Bapuji Nagar on Tuesday night. The victim, identified as Nagaraj, suffered serious injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment at McGann District Hospital.
According to the police, the alleged attacker, Rahil, a resident of the same area, physically assaulted Nagaraj during the incident. Arun, a relative of the victim and an eyewitness, informed the media on Wednesday that Nagaraj, who works as a waste collector and vehicle driver on contract, was ambushed while riding his motorcycle with his wife.
The accused, Rahil, is said to frequently loiter near a local chicken shop and has a history of troubling pedestrians, especially civic workers. Despite multiple complaints made to his father and repeated efforts to resolve the issue peacefully, no action was taken, Arun added.
Around 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Rahil, along with a group of accomplices, allegedly launched an armed assault on Nagaraj. The attackers are also accused of shouting communal insults during the altercation, worsening the gravity of the incident.
Shivamogga Superintendent of Police, G.K. Mithun Kumar, confirmed that a case has been registered at the Kote Police Station against Rahil. An investigation is currently underway to ascertain the full details and identify all those involved.
