The Government Main Middle School campus on B H Road, which hosts multiple educational institutions, is grappling with a serious security risk. Despite being under the jurisdiction of School Education and Literacy Minister Madhu Bangarappa, the long-pending request for funds to reconstruct its boundary wall has been stalled since 2023.
With no proper enclosure, trespassers can easily infiltrate the premises, engaging in unlawful activities such as theft. Staff from the eight government-run institutions within the campus have voiced their distress over these frequent intrusions.
This vast campus accommodates over 2,000 students, with nearly 70% being girls. It houses a government English higher primary school, a women’s first-grade college, Urdu and Tamil high schools, a girls’ pre-university college, and other institutions.
The problem escalated in November 2023 when heavy rains caused the boundary wall near the Urdu high school to collapse. Additionally, a small unsecured gate near an M. Vishveshwaraya statue makes unauthorized entry effortless.
Concerned parents highlight the dangers of an open campus, particularly due to the absence of CCTV cameras. In response, faculty members have pooled their own money to employ security personnel from 9 AM to 5 PM.
Although parts of the school were restored under Shivamogga Smart City Limited (SSCL), financial constraints hinder the construction of a secure boundary. Authorities have been repeatedly urged to allocate funds, but no progress has been made.
