Thalapathy Vijay, in his first political statement since establishing his party, Tamilaga Vetri Kazham, expressed his opposition to the implementation of the CAA. Vijay, through a Tamil statement, emphasized the paramount importance of social harmony and urged the Tamil Nadu government to prevent the law’s execution within the state’s borders.

The Centre has announced the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) 2019, a significant move coming four years after its passage by Parliament. This law now allows for the grant of Indian citizenship to undocumented non-Muslim migrants from Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan who have faced persecution in their home countries.

This marks Thalapathy Vijay’s first political opinion since he ventured into politics on February 2 and announced the name of his party – Tamilaga Vetri Kazham.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin also strongly criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s decision to notify the rules for the CAA ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, accusing him of attempting to gain political advantage. Stalin condemned the BJP government’s manipulation of the CAA, turning it from a symbol of humanity into a discriminatory measure based on religion and ethnicity. He further accused the BJP of betraying Muslims and Sri Lankan Tamils and sowing seeds of division in society.

Stalin alleged that despite opposition from democratic forces like the DMK, the CAA was passed with the support of the AIADMK, whom he referred to as BJP’s “stooge.” He claimed that the BJP had delayed implementing the law due to fears of public backlash.
