Hyderabad: Prabhas’s upcoming film “Salaar” recently created quite a buzz when the teaser, directed by Prashanth Neel, was released. The film was originally scheduled for release on September 28, a few weeks after Shah Rukh Khan’s film “Jawan.” However, the latest reports indicate that “Salaar” has been cancelled for its previously announced release date.
As of now, there is no new release date set for the movie, but there is strong speculation that it might hit theaters in December or January 2024.
Initially, it was reported that “Salaar” was performing well at the US box office, with approximately 14.5 thousand tickets already sold, despite having almost a month left until its release. In contrast, Shah Rukh Khan’s “Jawan” was experiencing a slower but steady growth. However, when bookings started in India, “Jawan” saw a significant surge in advance box office sales, with around 21 thousand tickets being sold per hour.
The postponement of “Salaar” is attributed to the extensive post-production work that still needs to be completed, which would not allow the film to be ready for its originally planned September 28 release. A source close to Pinkvilla confirmed this, saying, “Salaar holds a prominent position among the big films coming out of India, and the makers are committed to meeting the high expectations of fans and moviegoers. Unfortunately, the film is not yet ready and requires additional time for post-production. Therefore, Prabhas, Prashanth Neel, and their team collectively agreed to postpone the movie from its original September 28 release date.”
As for the US Box Office, the film had a strong start with advance bookings, but now that the release has been canceled, all tickets worth $400,000 will be refunded. An announcement regarding the new release date will be made in due course.
However, the new release date may impact another Prabhas film, “Kalki 2898 AD,” as “Salaar” is now eyeing a release in December or January 2024. December is already packed with film releases, and January has two major festivals, Sankranti and Republic Day. Sankranti is already booked with Prabhas’s other release, “Kalki 2898 AD,” and the Republic Day weekend is reserved for Hrithik Roshan’s film “Fighter.” Further details about “Salaar’s” new release date are awaited.
