Akshaya Tritiya is a popular Hindu festival which is celebrated with much enthusiasm and joy. Akshaya in Sanskrit means never diminishing and Tritiya means third which is an auspicious day in the Hindu calendar celebrated on the third lunar day of the bright moon of Vaishakh or Baishakh month.
It is the only day when the sun and the moon are at the peak of luminosity simultaneously so any purchase made on this day is believed to bring prosperity and good luck It is believed that starting any good work on Akshaya Trithiya will yield fruitful results and if you donate some things on this auspicious day, you will get long life, wealth and prosperity.
Many people buy gold on Akshaya Tritiya believing that it will bring prosperity and wealth in the future. On this day devotees wake up early in the morning and perform puja after taking bath. They offer incense sandalwood paste, tulsi leaves and yellow clothes with flowers to Lord Vishnu.
According to Hindu mythology, the Treta Yuga began on Akshaya Tritiya. It is common for Akshaya Tritiya and Parashurama Jayanti (6th incarnation of Lord Vishnu) to coincide. However, in some cases Parashurama Jayanti falls on the day before Akshaya Trithiya.
