Kodagu is the Scotland of Karnataka. We find many places worth visiting here. The District is famous for tourism. Kodagu is a treasure trove of falls, and hill stations. It is the birth place of River Cauvery. Nature lovers can really enjoy the greenery of the location and can enjoy at beautiful falls.

Abbey Falls in Coorg is a destination that you just cannot miss exploring during the monsoon. But this doesn’t mean that it’s not worth visiting during the other seasons. Abbey Falls stands surrounded by a blanket of greenery. It is also known as Abbi Falls. To reach the waterfall, one has to drive up to its entrance and then cover a short distance on foot.
Plantations of spices and coffee can be seen on the path of falls. The roar of the water along with the aroma of the plantations is a delight in itself. The brilliant view of the waterfall from the hanging bridge running opposite to the waterfall is a sight to cherish. Guarded by tall trees with pepper vines for a company, Abbey Falls sparkles as if a stream of white pearls is running down a green wall at a great speed.

During the British era, Abbey Falls was known as Jessy Falls. This is because when Coorg’s first British chaplain visited the place, he was enamoured with its beauty. He named the waterfall ‘Jessy Falls’ after his daughter who was called Jessy. After the country gained independence, the waterfall and its surrounding areas came under the control of the Government. The whole area was no better than a forest then. When Mr. Neravanda B. Nanaiah purchased the area from the Government, he transformed the surrounding areas of the waterfall into spices and coffee plantations. As the area cleared up, the waterfall started to attract people’s attention. Today the waterfall is located on a private property. But that does not prove as a deterrent for the touristsbro visit.

Madikeri, Mysuru, Mandalpatti are the near by places one can visit during Abbey Falls trip. July to October is the ideal time to plan a trip to the Abbey Falls.
