Any thing interlinked to our nation becomes our emotion. It exists in we bragging over the success of our sports achievers who represents our nation, the sense of pride listening to national anthem and goosebumps occurring at the gaze of tricolour flying high in the sky.

India is on its 75th year celebration of Freedom. And for the Platinum Jubilee, a national flag campaign has been adopted as the symbolic representation. With the ease being made in flag code, the national flag is witnessed glowing throughout the length and breadth of the nation. But the call for ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ have come up with several concerns too.

Initial hit of ease in ‘flag code’ was on Khadi flag weavers and their business. As Khadi flag can now be substituted with materials like polyster, cotton, wool and silk. The incidents like supply of torn flag, and National Flag being kept lower to the other ideological flags too have raised concern. The incidents like ration being denied to an individual in Haryana for not buying National Flag indicates the emotional investment of Indians.

Earlier with National Anthem being made mandatory at cinema theatres, there occurred several incidents which questioned not only nationalism but also nationality of Individuals. To the youths and the ones being carried away with emotions, there is a need to understand various aspects Fundamental duties. Respecting the National Flag and National Anthem is the very first fundamental duty. However, the comprehensive part of the fact lies in accepting Fundamental duties of the nation are not the indicator of nationalism nor are they justiciable in the court of law.

Fundamental duties are an arrangement which strengthens citizens’ duty over their nation but do not punish the disobeying of the same, in Case there is no emergence. An important fact to be understood is, the original Constitution didn’t include fundamental duties rather it was added as per the recommendations of Swarna Singh Committee.

In conclusion, a National Flag or National Anthem are not the parameters of nationalism but they are just the medium of showcasing it and true nationalism lies in become a resourceful citizen to the nation.
