Water, water everywhere, not a drop to drink

Who is unaware of the well said proverb ‘Health is Wealth’. If you have health, you will have a better home, and if you have a better home, you have a better country. And so, one of the richest man in the world, Adani hails from India.

On the contrary, the ignored factor of matter is rising poverty in the country. Pandemic has made nearly 15 to 20% of people fall back into poverty. To the shock and surprise of the nation, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare putforth a health report with scary outputs. It says, The number of kids with stunting (impaired growth ) in india, has increased from 7.5 to 7.7% and there is also an increase in the number of people suffering from anaemia between the age group 15 and 49.

Surprisingly, Indian poverty and malnutrition is not because of the lack of food crops. Rather, Indian godowns overflow with food grains and nearly 1,550 tonnes of food grains were damaged in FCI godowns during Covid-induced lockdown, says Ministry of Consumer Affairs. And on the other side many a people lost their lives during this phase not because of pandemic but because of hunger. It is nothing less than the situation where, you are stuck in the middle of the sea being thirsty but sea water is of no use.

Article 21 of the Constitution guarantees ‘Right to life and personal liberty’ and so, having nutritious food and leading a healthy life is a fundamental right of every citizen. An efficient grassroot administration is not an unachieveable dream for India. Eradication of dreadly polio was done with effective grassroot vaccination drive. And same is the attempt in Covid vaccination. An effective implementation of food crop distribution, and prioritising the subsidisation of crops based on food need rather then focusing only in a particular crop will lightly diminish the food wastage. Diminishing hunger means human attaining strength to work, with potential work force economy witnessing its growth and so there an be an economic welfare, not just of individuals but of the country as a  whole. India has to prioritise on diminishing its malnutrition and hunger level, if not surely, a potential generation of upcoming india will see no life due to poverty and hunger.
