Mangaluru: The decennial year celebrations of Spearhead Media Group’s newskarnataka.com was initiated with the inaugural ceremony held on Friday July 9 from 7 pm to 9 pm.
Brian Fernandes, Director of Spearhead Media Group welcomed the gathering and spoke about his experience in working with the media house for the past seven years.
Director of Spearhead Media Group, Canute J. Pinto gave the prefatory remarks in which he said, “we have come a long way and even though there are a lot of challenges with respect to competition in the digital media news dissemination, we are always looking forward to our new ventures.”
The guest of honour for the event was Govinda Babu Poojari, MD Cheftalk Food and Hospitality Services Pvt. Ltd. Speaking on the occasion he said, “News Karnataka is one of the best websites and reliable source of news. We have our all support for the social and other initiatives undertaken by the NK team.”
At the event, the decennial logo of newskarnataka.com was launched by Poojari.
Accomplished businessman and Managing Director of Regal Furnishings & Storage Systems LLC, Abu Dhabi – UAE, Walter D’Almeida spoke about his association with newskarnataka.com as an advertiser for the past 7 years. “It has been a very fruitful experience for me and has only helped my business grow. This is not a one-sided relation where only the media house is getting to grow. My business has had a lot of benefit from advertising in News Karnataka,” He also commended the team on their hard work and said that other business houses should also be part of News Karnataka. “Through this venture you are not only supporting media people but also supporting a cause which stands for providing employment and empowerment,” he added.
The speciality of News Karnataka is that through their various ventures, they bring to the limelight unknown people who are very deserving of the spotlight. This point was highlighted by Walter during his speech. “They promote many such talents which open many doors for them,” he said.
The ceremony also witnessed the launch of the new website of newskannada by Walter.
While giving the keynote address, Savio Rodrigues, Founder and Editor-in-chief, GoaChronicle.com., said, “News Karnataka has garnered a unique identity where they voice out the concerns of the region and talk about the issues pertaining to the people. They have no other agenda in mind than to put straightforward news to the people.”
“I see much more than 20 years for this media house since it is driven by a vision and a purpose,” he added. He further said that the team should keep moving forward and continue the phenomenal job of giving voice to the voiceless.
The cover of the July issue of Karnataka Today magazine was released by the keynote speaker, Savio Rodrigues.
During the presidential address, CA Valerian Dalmaida, Managing Partner of Quick Accounting and Advisory LLC, Abu Dhabi and Mentor & Advisor of Spearhead Media Group said, “It was in 2013 that I was approached by Canute to look into the possibilities of investing in News Karnataka. I researched and found that media and entertainment will grow at 15 to 18 % on yearly basis. This is proven right and we all saw it during pandemic. I discussed with four others like-minded people and we committed. Rest is history as you know.”
He further said, “Today, all our programmes, shows, news, special news are on people, by people for the benefit of people. We don’t go for breaking news rather than we wait and publish authentic and true news and all of us have put in our mind and heart truth endures like our masthead.”
Another highlight of the event was when various people from all around the world shared their experience with News Karnataka.
“Every Saturday 1 hour you have given space for Kannadigas to voice out their problems and this acts as a bridge between the government and Kannadigas living all around the world,” said Mohammed Saleem, President, Namma Nada Okkoota Dubai. “We are very thankful to the entire team for organising such a programme,” he added.
Akshara Damle, Founder of Manosamvaada, Bengaluru and columnist at newskarnataka.com, expressed his happiness in being associated with the company as a columnist. “This media provides variety of contents and I congratulate the entire team on this occasion.”

The website covers entire events of NRI Kannadigas who reside in Gulf countries aptly, and supports, nurtures the Kannada, Tulu, and Konkani language.

Yogesh Prabhu K., President of the Indian Social and Cultural Centre in Abu Dhabi, congratulated News Karnataka on its decennial year in the video message. “Since its beginning, News Karnataka has kept its readers informed about the latest events in and around Karnataka, particularly in the coastal region. Global news, weekly Tulu news, music shows, interviews, talk shows, awareness trainings, and other programmes are among our favourites.”
He stated that they are delighted to see Team News Karnataka accomplish such success. “We are optimistic that this service will continue in the next years, and that more individuals will benefit from it,” he said.
He concluded by thanking C A Valerian and Team News Karnataka for their active contribution during the year and in the years ahead.
Shirish Shetty, President Bunts Association of Northern America (BANA) appreciated News Karnataka for its efforts over the past ten years. He said that, “Last year, I was exposed to News Karnataka, and I’ve been using their many platforms to keep myself up to date with all the breaking news and talk shows from my own home on a weekly basis. The leadership team at News Karnataka has impressed me with their passion for their news portal. I wish Valerian and his team continued success in their effort to provide news to the people.”
He also emphasised Village TV’s initiative, which aims to empower youngsters by exposing them to journalism at the grassroot level, as well as the charity the team has undertaken across the country.
Rajesh Sequeira said, “I lost my job a year ago, and during that time, I discussed the concept of Village TV with Valerian. Village tourism was a concept that was always there in my mind. Then, by combining the two concepts, we created a talk show, which Srinivas also supported.”
“This Village TV concept was a hit, and I should add that whatever concept we promote, we do so for the benefit of the villagers. Later on, we began another show called Talent Show, in which people with various talents showcased their talents. So, this is a very good concept we have come up with and it has served as a very good platform for youngsters too,” he added.
To add flair to the events, various musical performances were also included in the celebration. The pre-recorded video songs enthralled the participants. Among the highlight was the Kannada song by Kannada playback singer Ramesh Chandra. While singer Jibin Balakrishnan sang the theme song, the famous singers from Mangaluru, Vidya Suvarna and Ravindra Prabhu sang Tulu duet. A class 10 student Azar Dhajin regaled the audience with Beary song and Rony Crasta Kulshekar made audience think with his Konkani song.
During the vote of thanks, editor of News Karnataka, Srinivas Pejathaya thanked each and every one gathered for this celebration. “The leaders of this media house have given us the freedom of speech which in turn has given us the freedom to work. And I thank each and everyone of them and every client and stakeholders for being part of our ventures and openly supporting us.”
With the promise of reconnecting entire Karnataka and Kannadigas around the world through its various ventures coming up in the following years, News Karnataka has set on its new path for the coming years towards its next milestone!
