As part of a training camp in Chennai, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) started getting ready for the upcoming Indian Premier League season earlier this month. Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the captain and other players are there in the camp as the CSK stars work up a sweat in anticipation of their inaugural match against the reigning champion Gujarat Titans on March 31. The Super Kings had a miserable ninth-place finish in the IPL standings the season before, and under Dhoni’s direction, the team will be looking to significantly improve on that result in the forthcoming competition.

Nonetheless, there were a lot of rumours about Dhoni’s future with the franchise before the season. Many fans think that Dhoni’s time with the Super Kings may be his last. The CSK captain himself gave some hints about this prior to the team’s final game of the previous season when he said that he wanted to express his gratitude to fans all over the nation in response to a question about whether he would play in the IPL in 2023.

Several cricketers, both former and current, have responded to the rumours even though there has been no official confirmation of Dhoni’s future with CSK. Deepak Chahar, a member of CSK, claimed earlier this week that Dhoni hasn’t communicated.

The first player to win all of the ICC trophies while captaining was MS Dhoni, who is regarded as one of the best cricket captains of all time. The T20 World Cup was won by MS Dhoni’s team in 2007, and the ODI World Cup in 2011.

And two years later, the Champions Trophy. Dhoni made a 2020 international cricket retirement announcement. In the 2019 World Cup semifinal between India and New Zealand, he competed in his farewell game for the Indian team.

Former team batsman Shane Watson recently commented in-depth about the CSK captain’s future, stating that Dhoni can play for the organisation for the next three to four years. “His leadership abilities are on par with his talent in sports. He makes a terrific leader because of his athleticism and ability to understand the game’s mentality. His on-the-ground abilities are outstanding. He contributes significantly to CSK’s success,” he added.

The CSK has won four IPL championships under Dhoni’s leadership; before the previous season, the wicketkeeper-batter had given Ravindra Jadeja the reins. Midway through the season, Dhoni was forced to take back the leadership position due to a spate of disappointing performances.
